- Shopify works in Kuwait, and about 3,790 live stores already run there.
- KNET carries about 75–80% of online payments, so your gateway's Shopify app must include it.
- Shopify Payments isn't available, so Shopify adds 2% (Basic) down to 0.2% (Plus) on gateway and BNPL orders.
- Set the store currency to KWD and use fixed three-decimal prices like KD 12.950.
- There's no VAT, parcels up to KD 100 clear duty-free, and Tabby and Tamara are both live.
Yes, Shopify works in Kuwait. About 3,790 live stores already sell there, and Shopify is the go-to platform for Kuwaiti fashion, beauty and fragrance brands.
Kuwait is a great market for your own store, because shoppers are wealthy, almost everyone is online and there's no VAT.
There's just one thing to get right first: KNET. It's Kuwait's national debit network, and most shoppers won't buy without it.
Below, you'll see which gateways bring KNET to Shopify, what they cost, how to price in dinars and how to ship.
Does Shopify work in Kuwait?
Yes, and fully. You can set Kuwait as your store address, price in Kuwaiti dinars and deliver across the country. Most people live in and around Kuwait City, so delivery is quick.
Here's what's different from a US or UK store:
- Payments. No Shopify Payments, so you connect an outside gateway with KNET.
- An extra Shopify fee. Shopify charges 0.2–2% on orders paid through that gateway.
- Three decimals. The dinar splits into 1,000 fils, so prices look like KD 4.950.
- Language. Kuwait leans Arabic, so an Arabic-first store wins.
Each one takes a setting or two.
Getting paid: KNET on Shopify
You add KNET through a gateway's Shopify app. The gateway takes KNET, Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay, then pays you in dinars.
Local gateways need a Kuwaiti commercial licence. With one, you can choose from every option below.
| Published KNET rate | Setup fee | Shopify connection | Good for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UPayments | 0.5% + 100 fils, or flat 250 fils | KD 250 one-time | Shopify plugin | Lowest KNET fees |
| MyFatoorah | 2.5% + 100 fils | KD 0–1,500 | Shopify app | Invoices and payment links |
| Tap Payments | Quote | Quote | Native Checkout app | Brands selling across the GCC |
| Hesabe | Max 2.5% + KD 0.500 | Max KD 500 | Ask | Kuwaiti stores, Apple Pay |
| Checkout.com | Quote | Quote | Custom builds | Large brands |
Ask for KNET by name in your first email, because it's often a separate approval even when cards go live quickly.
Shopify's extra fee, in fils
Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee to every order paid through an outside gateway. It's 2% on Basic and falls with each plan, down to 0.2% on Plus.
For example, take a KD 25.000 order on Basic, paid by KNET:
| Cost line | MyFatoorah | UPayments |
|---|---|---|
| Gateway fee | KD 0.725 | KD 0.225 |
| Shopify third-party fee (2%) | KD 0.500 | KD 0.500 |
| VAT on fees | None | None |
| Total cost of the payment | KD 1.225 (4.9%) | KD 0.725 (2.9%) |
On the cheaper gateway, Shopify's fee is the biggest line. That's why busy Kuwaiti stores move up to Grow, which halves it.
Tabby, Tamara and cash on delivery
Buy now, pay later (BNPL) works well in Kuwait. Tabby and Tamara are both live, and Tamara's Shopify app covers Kuwait. Confirm KWD support with Tabby when you sign.
Sellers typically report BNPL fees of about 3–6%, and Shopify's extra fee applies on top.
Keep cash on delivery (COD) for first-time buyers as a manual payment method, which Shopify charges no fee on. Confirm each order on WhatsApp before dispatch.
Rates, refunds and every gateway's quirks are in our guide to accepting KNET payments.
Pricing in KWD: the three-decimal trap
Set your store currency to KWD. Orders through a third-party gateway are charged in your store currency, so a USD or AED store would charge Kuwaitis in the wrong one.
Then watch the decimals, because Shopify's checkout shows three but other parts of the store can slip:
- Theme price formats. Many themes are built around two decimals. Preview a product at KD 15.490 and check it doesn't show KD 15.49.
- Converted prices. Shopify Markets rounds converted prices up to its own default ending, and you can't change it. Set fixed prices in a Markets catalog instead.
- Gateway amounts. Gateways take the amount in fils, so KD 4.950 goes through as 4950. Run one live order and match the charge to the shelf price.
- Discounts. 10% off KD 15.490 gives KD 13.941. Fixed sale prices like KD 12.990 look cleaner.
Convert a price you already charge to see it in dinars, rounded to a local ending:
GCC price localizer
Turn one base price into six shelf prices, with VAT, local rounding and Arabic display
Markup is applied, then local VAT is added on top.
Consumer prices in KSA and the UAE are expected to include VAT.
Optional % added to the net price per market (e.g. to cover duty, shipping or BNPL fees).
Prices ending in 9 (SAR 99, 149, 199; AED 49, 99) dominate on noon, Amazon.sa and Shein (observation). For 3-decimal currencies this gives x.x90 endings.

Your font supports the new Saudi riyal sign (U+20C1), so SAR prices use it. SAMA guidance puts the riyal sign to the left of the number, with a space, in every language. The text abbreviation ر.س is usually written after the number in Arabic.
KWD is pegged to an undisclosed basket, so its rate moves slightly. ≈0.31 per USD is an approximation; review it quarterly.
Estimates based on published pegs and VAT rates as of Oct 2026. Rounding norms are market observations. Confirm VAT display rules with ZATCA / the FTA and your payment provider's currency rules.
Refunds and rounding rules are covered in pricing in three-decimal currencies.

Shipping Shopify orders to Kuwait
Most stores serve Kuwait from a Dubai hub, and couriers deliver in a few days. Already holding stock in Saudi Arabia? Ask your 3PL about cross-border delivery, so one warehouse serves both.
Set up shipping like this:
- Use flat rates on Basic, such as free delivery over KD 15. Live courier rates need a higher plan.
- Make the phone number required. Couriers often call or WhatsApp before they arrive.
- Say who pays clearance, because some couriers charge a small fee even on duty-free parcels.
- Show the KD 100 duty line in your cart logic. A free-shipping threshold well below it keeps most orders duty-free.
Routes, couriers and a landed-cost example are in how to sell online in Kuwait.
Arabic on your Kuwait store
Make Arabic the default language and keep English as a switch for expats. Pick a right-to-left (RTL) theme and add Arabic in Settings > Languages.
Shopify doesn't pre-translate checkout into Arabic, so translate checkout text and order emails yourself. Our Arabic Shopify setup guide shows how.

Notes for UAE and Saudi brands
- Test with Markets first. Your current store can sell to Kuwait in KWD, though without KNET.
- Ask regional gateways about KNET. Tap and Checkout.com can add it for UAE or Saudi entities, case by case.
- Strip out VAT. Kuwaiti prices shouldn't carry UAE or Saudi VAT.
