- Shopify wins in the UAE. It's the only GCC country with Shopify Payments, so card and Apple Pay orders carry no extra Shopify fee. Basic costs $24 a month on annual billing.
- WooCommerce is the strongest alternative if you have a developer. Stripe, Telr, Ziina and Network International all plug in, and there's no platform fee on sales.
- Salla and Zid are Saudi-first. They price in riyals and are built around Saudi payments, so they fit UAE sellers whose main market is Saudi Arabia.
- Since 2 October 2026, Shopify's checkout and free Horizon themes render Arabic right to left. Dawn still doesn't, so don't build an Arabic store on it.
- Most UAE brands run their own store and a marketplace side by side. Amazon.ae and noon bring the first buyers while your store builds margin.
Shopify is the best ecommerce platform for most UAE stores. The reason is simple: the UAE is the only Gulf country where Shopify Payments works.
That means cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay go live in a few clicks, with no extra Shopify fee on those orders. More than 27,000 UAE stores already run on it.
Shopify isn't the only good choice, though. WooCommerce suits teams with a developer, and the Saudi platforms Salla and Zid fit brands whose main market is Saudi Arabia.
Below, you'll see how the five main options handle UAE payments, Arabic, couriers and cost, plus which one fits your kind of store.
Own store or marketplace: where should a UAE brand start?
Start with both if you can. A marketplace gives you buyers on day one, while your own store gives you higher margins and a customer list you keep.
In the UAE, the two big marketplaces are Amazon.ae and noon. You list products, they bring the traffic and take a commission on each sale.
A store platform like Shopify is different. You pay a monthly plan, own the brand experience and bring the traffic yourself.
A common UAE playbook is to list best sellers on a marketplace to prove demand, then send repeat buyers to your own store. Compare the options in our guide to marketplaces in the Gulf.

The 5 best ecommerce platforms for the UAE
The first two are the real contenders for a UAE-based business. The other three fit specific situations.
1. Shopify: best for most UAE stores
Shopify is the global leader, with thousands of apps and the best tools for selling in several countries. In the UAE it has a unique edge: Shopify Payments.
- Price: Basic is $24 a month on annual billing, about AED 88. Grow is $69.
- Payments: Shopify Payments takes Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay with no third-party fee.
- Watch out for: a 0.2–2% Shopify fee on Tabby and Tamara orders, because they install as separate apps.
Shopify Payments needs a UAE trade licence and an AED business account. Our guide to Shopify in the UAE walks through activation, plans and COD setup.
2. WooCommerce: best for full control
WooCommerce is a free plugin that turns a WordPress site into a store. You own the code, the data and the hosting.
- Price: the software is free. Hosting, a theme and plugins typically run AED 390–690 a month.
- Payments: UAE gateways plug straight in. Network International and Ziina both offer WooCommerce plugins, and Stripe works here too.
- Watch out for: speed, security and updates during big sales like White Friday are your job.
It's the best fit for content-led brands, custom B2B logic and teams already on WordPress. See our WooCommerce guide for setup.
3. Zid: best for UAE brands that sell mostly in Saudi Arabia
Zid is a Saudi platform that lists the UAE among its supported countries. Its strength is "total commerce": a website, a POS system for your shops and wholesale tools in one dashboard.
- Price: a free Starter plan, then Rise at SAR 99 a month.
- Best for: brands with branches or a Saudi customer base, and sellers who also list on Amazon.
- Watch out for: plans, payments and payouts built around riyals, so a UAE-only store gains little.
4. Salla: best as a second store for the Saudi market
Salla is Saudi Arabia's biggest store builder, with Arabic, Saudi payments and couriers built in. It ships across the GCC, but it's designed around Saudi companies and Saudi bank accounts.
For a UAE business, Salla works best as a dedicated Saudi store once you have a Saudi entity or a local partner. Read our Salla review for the full picture.
5. Wix: best for a simple brand site
Wix is a general website builder with a shop built in. It supports Arabic RTL sites and makes good-looking pages easy.
It suits a brochure site with a handful of products. Gulf payment and courier options are limited, so most stores outgrow it once orders pick up.

How do you get paid on each platform?
UAE shoppers pay mostly by phone. Digital wallets made up 53% of UAE online payments in 2024, so Apple Pay comes first at checkout.
Your platform decides which gateways you can use and what each order costs. Here's what the main options charge on an AED 300 card order:
The chart shows the key trade-off. On WooCommerce, you pick the cheapest gateway. On Shopify, Shopify Payments is almost always cheapest, because any other gateway adds Shopify's own fee.
The main UAE payment options are:
- Shopify Payments. Shopify only, for UAE-licensed companies. Payouts arrive in AED.
- Stripe. The UAE is the only GCC country where Stripe accepts merchants. It covers cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, but not Tabby or Tamara.
- Telr. A UAE gateway with Apple Pay, PayPal, Tabby and Jaywan, the UAE's new domestic card scheme.
- Ziina. A UAE fintech with simple pricing, payment links and plugins for Shopify and WooCommerce.
- Network International. The region's largest acquirer, which merged with Magnati in October 2025. Rates are quoted, so it suits larger stores.
- Tabby and Tamara. Buy now, pay later (BNPL) apps that split a purchase into instalments. Both work on every major platform.
Foreign cards change the ranking. Many UAE shoppers are tourists or expats paying with home-country cards, and every gateway charges extra for them.
Shopify Payments and Stripe add 1%, so the same order costs AED 12.70. Ziina adds 1.5%, taking it to AED 13.30. Telr adds just 0.5%, so it stays cheapest at AED 9.05.
For rates, payouts and setup steps, see our guide to payments in the UAE.
Arabic and right-to-left: what each platform gives you
Most UAE shoppers browse in English, so an English-first store is normal here. But UAE consumer rules ask for Arabic product details, terms and invoices, and a bilingual store wins Emirati and Arab expat buyers.
Arabic reads right to left (RTL), so menus, galleries and carts must mirror. Here's how each platform handles it:
- Shopify. Since 2 October 2026, Shopify's admin, checkout, customer accounts and free Horizon themes render Arabic RTL. Dawn, the older free theme, still doesn't.
- WooCommerce. WordPress handles RTL, and plugins such as WPML or TranslatePress add the second language.
- Salla and Zid. Arabic-first from top to bottom, including the checkout and notifications.
- Wix. Supports Arabic RTL sites out of the box.
One Shopify catch remains. Arabic isn't among the languages Shopify pre-translates at checkout, so you translate those strings yourself.

The theme options and translation apps are compared in our Arabic Shopify setup guide.
Shipping: which platforms connect to UAE couriers?
UAE shoppers expect next-day delivery in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and same-day is common in Dubai. Your platform needs a clean link to a courier that can keep up.
The main UAE options are Aramex, Quiqup, Jeebly, J&T Express, iMile and Emirates Post. Here's how they connect:
- Shopify. Official carrier apps are weak, with the Aramex app rated 1.7 out of 5. Most stores use an aggregator such as Shipox or a 3PL like Locad instead.
- WooCommerce. Courier plugins vary in quality, so many stores also route orders through an aggregator.
- Salla and Zid. Gulf couriers are built in, which is their biggest operational advantage.
For cash on delivery (COD), agree the remittance cycle up front. Quiqup pays out weekly and Jeebly guarantees seven days.
Compare carriers and prices in our guide to UAE courier companies for ecommerce.
What does a UAE store really cost in year one?
The monthly plan is only part of the bill. Some platforms take a cut of certain orders, and some need paid hosting and plugins.
For example, picture a Dubai beauty brand selling AED 20,000 a month. Most orders are paid by card or Apple Pay, and 20% go through Tabby or Tamara. The rest are COD.
Here's its year-one platform cost on annual billing:
- Shopify Basic costs about AED 1,060 in plan fees. The 2% fee on BNPL orders adds about AED 960.
- Shopify Grow halves that BNPL fee. It pays for itself at about AED 16,500 a month in Tabby and Tamara sales, four times this store's level.
- Zid is cheapest on paper, but its payments are built for riyals, so a UAE-only store gives up local checkout options.
- WooCommerce costs the most up front, in exchange for full control.
So for this store, Shopify Basic is the sweet spot. Want every line item, from themes to agency fees? See what a Dubai Shopify store costs.
Which platform is best for your type of store?
Your products and your customers shape the choice more than the logo does. Here's the quick rule by store type:
- Fashion and beauty. Shopify with Tabby or Tamara. Instalments are expected at UAE fashion and beauty checkouts.
- Electronics and gadgets. Shopify, with a strong COD flow for first-time buyers and a BNPL option for bigger baskets.
- Perfume, oud and gifts. Shopify with a bilingual RTL theme. Gift buyers often shop in Arabic.
- Groceries, flowers and same-day goods. Shopify or WooCommerce linked to a same-day courier such as Quiqup.
- B2B and wholesale. WooCommerce for custom pricing rules, or Zid if your buyers are mostly Saudi.
- Testing a product idea. A marketplace first, such as noon in the UAE, then your own store once it sells.

7 quick questions. We score Shopify, Salla, Zid, WooCommerce, Amazon and noon for your situation.
Question 1 of 7
Where is your business based?
Where your company or trade licence is registered.

How to launch your UAE store
Most sellers go from idea to first order in four to eight weeks. The licence and bank account are the slow steps, so start them first.
- 1
Get a trade licence with an e-commerce activity
Free zone packages start at about AED 6,000, and some zones issue a licence within a day. Mainland licences suit shops and showrooms.
- 2
Open an AED business bank account
Shopify Payments, Telr and Ziina all pay out to a UAE IBAN in your company's name.
- 3
Pick your platform and build the store
Use the table and quiz above, then open a trial store and load your first products in English and Arabic.
- 4
Switch on payments
Turn on cards and Apple Pay, add Tabby or Tamara, and keep COD as a fallback for new customers.
- 5
Connect a courier and test
Link a courier or aggregator, require a phone number at checkout and place test orders before launch.
The licence options are compared in our UAE e-commerce licence guide.
Notes for UAE brands expanding to Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is the Gulf's biggest market, and many UAE brands expand there next. Your platform choice shapes how easy that is.
- Shopify Markets lets one UAE store show Saudi shoppers prices in riyals and pages in Arabic.
- mada, the Saudi debit network, won't run through UAE Shopify Payments. Saudi cards are charged as Visa or Mastercard.
- A second Saudi store on Salla, Zid or a Saudi Shopify store adds mada once you have a Saudi entity.
- Ship by road from Dubai. Aramex and SMSA run GCC land networks into Riyadh.
Our UAE to Saudi expansion guide covers the sequence.
Notes for foreign and Chinese brands
You don't need a UAE company to build a Shopify or WooCommerce store. You do need one for Shopify Payments and most local gateways.
- A free zone company can be 100% foreign-owned, and some zones license non-residents.
- Parcels into Dubai worth up to AED 1,000 are duty-free since August 2026. VAT still applies.
- Marketplaces are the low-risk test. Amazon.ae and noon let you prove demand before you set up a company. See selling from China to the UAE.

Activate Shopify Payments, add Tabby and COD, and launch the right way.

Frequently asked questions
Shopify, for most people. It's faster to launch, Shopify Payments is built in and you never manage hosting or security. WooCommerce wins when you need custom features, already run WordPress or want to own every line of code, and you have someone to maintain it.
